The range of CT services
The CT sector is extremely diverse. Individual CT operators will provide a range of services in response to local need.
The following list describes the range of potential services:
Minibus services
- Shared transport for a wide range of community groups, from under 5s groups to over 60s clubs.
- Individual door-to-door services for passengers who find it difficult or impossible to use mainstream transport. For example, Dial A Ride.
Community Buses
- Regular, timetabled bus services with volunteer drivers.
Contracted Services
- Home to school transport
- Social Services day centre transport
- PSV services (main bus services/coach operations)
Demand Responsive Transport
- Services for the public, which adapt their itinerary and timetable to suit a particular transport demand. These use paid drivers, operating minibuses or smaller vehicles such as people-carriers.
Community Car Services
- Door to door transport for individuals using volunteer drivers, either with their own CT-owned cars or people carriers, for passengers who cannot use public transport.
Vehicle brokerage & management
- Looking after vehicles for local community groups - from simply garaging or managing bookings to a full management and maintenance agreement.
- Management by a CT can take away the worry of running a vehicle, leaving the group free to concentrate on its activities. It can also provide an income.
Training
- To nationally accredited MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) standards, for drivers and passenger assistants.
Wheelchair loan
- Loan of powered and/or non-powered mobility equipment on a short-term basis.
Wheels to Work/Scooter Commuter
- Loan and management of scooters to enable access to employment
Goods vehicle hire
- Vans for community groups to move things as well as people
Recycling
- Furniture recycling collection and redistribution of household goods.
- Community recycling projects.
